Request for Permission to Use Google Maps Place Review Data for Academic Research

Dear Google Maps API Support Team, I hope this email finds you well. My name is [Ho,Fu-Chung 何復忠], a graduate student at Shih Hsin University, currently conducting research on Large Language Model-Assisted Content Analysis (LACA) for Hotel Reviews on Google Maps in Taipei. As part of my research, I aim to analyze Google Maps hotel reviews to explore how open-source large language models can assist in content analysis, particularly in multi-dimensional sentiment extraction, sarcasm detection, and long-text processing. The study follows ethical guidelines and will strictly comply with Google Maps API terms of use. I would like to request formal permission to collect and use Google Maps place review data for the legally registered hotels and B&Bs in Taipei. The research will involve:

  1. Collecting a limited number of publicly available reviews (up to 5 per location) using the Google Maps Places API.
  2. Analyzing textual content using open-source language models to examine sentiment trends, service quality perception, and review characteristics.
  3. Ensuring that all data is used solely for academic and non-commercial purposes, without redistributing or republishing individual reviews. I would appreciate your guidance on any necessary procedures or documentation required to obtain permission for this research. Please let me know if any further information is needed. Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to your response.
